Class Descriptions

2020-2021 School Year

Our school year runs from mid-September to May each year. We follow the FCPS calendar so generally have the same days off as public schools.

Toilet training is not required for any of the preschool classes listed below. Our “Big Room” centers include arts, science and sensory tables, pretend play, gross motor skills, and a quiet/reading area.

Child’s Day Out (CDO – Two Year Olds)

Monday and Friday, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm

  • Ages 20-36 months by September 30, 2020.
  • Day balanced between classroom time, process art, “Big Room” centers, outdoor play, snack, circle, story, and music time.
  • Specialized music instruction once a week from a professional music teacher.
  • No co-oping in the classroom required.
  • Adult-to-child ratio is 1:5. Maximum 10 children.

$250/month
Annual Materials Fee $100

Two Year Old Preschool Class

Tuesday and Thursdays, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm

  • Age two by September 30, 2020.
  • Day balanced between classroom time, process art, “big-room” centers, outdoor play, snack, circle, and story time.
  • Specialized music instruction once a week from a professional music teacher.
  • Parents co-op in the classroom approximately six times per year, on Tuesday and Thursday.
  • Adult-to-child ratio is 1:4. Maximum 12 children.

$215/month
Buy-Out option is $265/month
(Two families are allowed to “buy-out” of classroom co-oping responsibilities)
Annual Materials Fee $110

Three Year Old Preschool Class

Monday/Wednesday/Friday, 9:30 AM – 12:30 pm

  • Age three by September 30, 2020.
  • Day balanced between classroom activities, including circle time, calendar and weather discussion, show-and-tell, story and snack time, as well as “big-room” centers, process art, outdoor play and bike day, and work with small manipulatives, puzzles and games.
  • Specialized music instruction once a week from a professional music teacher.
  • Children also enjoy in-house enrichment programs throughout the school year such as dramatic storytelling and creative movement as well as off-campus field trips.
  • Parents co-op in the classroom approximately seven times per year, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and drive on one to two field trips.
  • Adult-to-child ratio is 1:5. Maximum of 14 children.

Three/Four Year Old Preschool Class

3s–Tuesday through Thursday, 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM
4s–Monday through Thursday, 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM

  • For older 3s: Age four by January 31, 2021
  • For 4s: Age four by September 30, 2020
  • Three-year olds attend Tuesday through Thursday; four-year olds attend Monday through Thursday, with Mondays reserved for specific kindergarten readiness instruction. All students attend class for three hours per school day.
  • Daily activities include working with small manipulatives, puzzles, and sequencing games, process art, circle and reading time, snack time, Star of the Day program, show-and-tell, discussing the calendar, weather, and current events, outdoor play and bike day, and “big-room” centers.
  • Specialized music instruction once a week from a professional music instructor.
  • Children also enjoy in-house enrichment programs throughout the school year such as dramatic storytelling and creative movement as well as off-campus field trips
  • Parents co-op approximately 6 times per year, on Monday for the 4s and on Tuesday for the 3s and generally drive on two field trips
  • Adult-to-child ratio is 1:7. Maximum of 14 children (6 older three-year olds and 8 four-year olds)

Four Year Old Preschool Class

Tuesday through Friday, 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM

  • Four by September 30, 2020
  • Day balanced between time in the classroom working with small manipulatives, puzzles, and games, snack time, Star of the Day program, show-and-tell, discussing the calendar, weather, and current events, process art, outdoor play and bike day, “big-room” centers, and kindergarten readiness activities.
  • Specialized music instruction once a week from a professional music instructor.
  • Children also enjoy in-house enrichment programs throughout the school year
    such as dramatic storytelling and creative movement as well as off-campus
    field trips.
  • Parents co-op approximately six times per year, on Thursday and Friday, and generally drive on 2 field trips.
  • Adult-to-child ratio is 1:6. Maximum of 12 children.

$320/month
Buy-out option is $370/month

Lunch Bunch

Monday through Friday
12:30 pm – 1:30 pm

Lunch Bunch is held immediately after school, from 12:30 PM–1:30 PM, and gives children in the 3s, 3/4s, and 4s classes an additional fun hour to their school day. Children bring their own packed lunch and enjoy eating and playing in a supervised small group setting. Please note that children may only attend Lunch Bunch if they have attended school on that particular day.

$30/month for attending one day a week
$60/month for attending two days a week
$90/month for attending three days a week
$120/month for attending four days a week
Drop-in Fee (if space is available): $9 per session

A minimum enrollment of 4 students is required in order for Lunch Bunch to be held on any particular day, and a maximum of 20 students may be enrolled per day.

Enrichment Activities

Students in the 3s, 3/4s, and 4s classes participate in enrichment activities once
a month, including puppet shows, creative movement, pumpkin painting, nature/wildlife presentations, etc. All activities are held at the school, with younger students and/or siblings welcome to come in for many events.

Providence Nursery School also offers paid enrichment programs on Wednesdays, after Lunch Bunch, for those who wish to enroll their child. These classes generally include soccer, My Gym, and yoga during different months of the year. The class is 30 minutes long and is held after Lunch Bunch. A maximum number of children applies to each program.
